DESCRIPTION:Day 1 with Dr. Abby Reisman (October 5) \n\nThis full day workshop for grade 6-12 social studies teachers will focus on the design of document-based lessons in history. Workshop segments will explore strategies for modeling and teaching historical thinking. Participants will engage in exercises focused on formulating generative historical questions\, selecting and preparing primary sources for struggling readers\, and facilitating document-based discussion. Lesson materials will be drawn from the Reading Like a Historian curriculum (https://sheg.stanford.edu/).\nDr. Abby Reisman is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education in the Teaching\, Learning\, and Leadership Division at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Reisman received her Ph.D. from Stanford University\, where she directed the “Reading Like a Historian” Project in San Francisco\, the first extended history curriculum intervention in urban high schools.\n\nDay 2 with Questar III Social Studies Specialist (November 16) \n\nA follow up session\, facilitated by the Questar III Social Studies Specialist\, will enable participants to apply their learning to develop lesson plans aligned to the NYS Social Studies Framework. SUMMARY:Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Training
DESCRIPTION:The amended Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) took effect on July 1\, 2013\, under this amended legislation beginning January 1\, 2014\, all persons applying to the NYS Education Department for an administrative or supervisory service\, classroom teaching service or school service certificate or coaching license must complete six (6) hours of coursework or training in harassment\, bullying and discrimination prevention and intervention.  The training proactively addresses the social patterns of harassment\, bullying and discrimination and is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to create an affirming school environment for all students. \nParticipants must be in attendance for the full session to receive a certificate of completion.  Payment of $80.00 must be received prior to the day of the training in check\, MO or cash\, in order to receive the certificate at the conclusion of the training.  Training is limited to 50 participants so register early.  Feel free to mail\, fax (518-477-1335) or email bsuafoa@questar.org your registration. \nDATE:  Wednesday\, September 27\, 2017\nTIME:   8:30 AM – 3:00 PM\nFACILITATOR:  Elizabeth Santabarbara\nLOCATION:  Questar Conference Center Rm. 3\nTARGETED AUDIENCE:  Teachers\, Teaching Assistants and Coaches
