With seniors set to graduate high school in two months, Questar III’s Rensselaer Educational Center in Troy is taking every opportunity to prepare students for the transition to higher education or the workforce.

As part of that effort, students are learning how every action they take (or don’t take) can create a lasting impression. The school recently invited a human resources professional with over 25 years of experience to speak to students.

Joe Clement, director of human resources at Auterra Inc. in Malta, presented to high school seniors and REC staff. Career Development Facilitator Pamela Mertz said this opportunity provided students with a valuable perspective.

“It was an honor and delight to have Mr. Clement take time out of his work day to meet with young people. Students hear the same message from educators, but when it comes from a guest speaker, it seems to really stick. We are fortunate to have so many business partners interested in meeting with our students,” she said.

Based in the Luther Technology Park in Malta, Auterra is a clean energy company, specializing in catalyst and process technology for the decontamination and upgrading of crude oil and oil distillates.
