On May 13, Questar III held its Third Annual Cruise-in to benefit the Columbia-Greene Educational Center’s Scholarship Fund.

Two classic cars featured at Cruise-InAccording to Cruise-in Committee member Rick Snyder, “This year we had more than 100 specialty vehicles, including classic cars, lowriders, tuner imports, rat rods, high boys, prostreet cars, even a Delorean!  There was also a variety of trucks and vintage tractors, brought in by one of our exceptional former Automotive Technologies students, Zach Baker.”

Some Questar III teachers brought their cars, including Ed Hull with his red classic MG TD kit car, Mike Veeder with his 1964 Corvette Stingray, and Gerry Smith with his “First Love,” a funny car with a fiberglass shell that lifts to reveal a dragster for racing. Smith, an Automotive Technologies teacher, had a story about First Love.”

Gerry Smith's car“I helped my brother with this car which he raced through the National Hot Rod Association from 1969 to 1973 when he sold it. After my brother passed away in 1986, I started searching for this car and finally found it in 1997. Now I enter it in nostalgic cars shows; it means a lot to me.”

Scholarship Committee Chairperson Lynn Seftner, a Career Development Specialist with Questar III, explained “The Cruise-in is the biggest annual benefit to support our scholarship fund, and it’s a real team effort by our faculty, staff and students. The Culinary Arts students prepared a fabulous buffet, students in the Automotive and Criminal Justice programs handled parking and registration, and our staff devoted many hours to the planning and coordination of this benefit.  We raised money for scholarships that will be awarded to our most hardworking and deserving career/technical students now headed to college after Questar III.”

We hope to see everyone back next year!”
