Students from Questar III’s George Washington School recently gathered with their families for an end-of-the-year awards ceremony in the school’s gymnasium.
Using the school wide expectations of “be respectful, be in control, and be ready to learn” awards were given to students who not only met, but exceeded these expectations. Students were also recognized for achievement in reading, math, school spirit and other areas.
“We recognized the achievement of students both academically and socially. This was about a celebration of the many wonderful things our students have done this year,” said Principal Chris Martel.
Members of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department also attended as the culmination of their year-long outreach to the Troy-based school. The department was honored for its willingness to work collaboratively with the school and for their integration into the school community.
The school also honored custodian Daryl Stokes, who has been a staple in the daily lives of students according to Martel. “Daryl has gone above and beyond his duties. He is a valuable part of our school community,” he said.
Martel also thanked his staff for providing a smooth transition for students during Questar III’s first year at the building.
Located at 344 Menemsha Lane in Troy, George Washington School provides educational and support services for children with special learning needs. Questar III leases the building from the Averill Park Central School District.
