A note from George Washington School Principal Chris Martel:
February 3, 2012 update
On behalf of the students and staff at George Washington School, I wanted to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude for the generosity others have shown in response to our plea for help for one of our families that experienced the loss of their recent fire. It is inspiring to see how such a diverse and geographically expansive community can come together when one of their own needs assistance.
To update you regarding the family’s needs, they have expressed to us that their need for clothing has been satisfied, and that they have been provided toys and books for their children as well. They are currently still in the process of looking for a new home, so their exact needs for furniture and appliances are not fully defined, but they are still in need of household items such as curtains, sheets, decorations, etc. Of course, monetary donations or gift cards would be most helpful as well.
Those wishing to contribute can still contact Kim Franklin, President of the Speigletown Fire Company, at (518) 470-7477, or Jennifer Merritt, our school social worker who has spearheaded our relief efforts here at GWS (Jennifer.merritt@questar.org, or 283-5752).
Thank you all again for your efforts to assist this family, and for all that you do to support our students.
Sincerely,
Chris
Original message – January 31, 2012
As you know, the families of many of our students are struggling and our schools often serve as a place of support and respite from issues beyond their control.
This is the case for one of our students at George Washington. His family recently lost personal belongings and precious memories in a house fire that destroyed everything.
While I know many of our students would benefit from a group effort like this, I am passing along this message to see if others would be willing to help a family in need.
The family currently needs the following items:
- clothing,
- household goods
- toys
- furniture
Please contact Kim Franklin, President of the Speigletown Fire Company, at (518) 470-7477 if you would like to contribute. If you have any questions, please contact me at Chris.Martel@questar.org or Jennifer Merritt at Jennifer.Merritt@questar.org.
On behalf of the staff at George Washington, I thank you for any support you can provide…
