On days when the gym is unavailable to them, Questar III students in Beth St. Clair Bedell’s class at Ichabod Crane use video programming to bring body movement and fitness to life.

The class uses SmartMoves, an award-winning cognitive fitness program that combines music and movement.

The DVD program leads the class through a series of increasingly complicated body movements that function as a kind of calisthenics for the brain.

St. Clair Bedell said students follow the movements – which range from simple to deceptively complex – for about 20 minutes twice a week.

“The program helps to address developmental issues with my students. They have to use their arms and brains,” she said.

Ichabod Crane High School Principal William Schneider donated the DVD to St. Clair Bedell after receiving a copy at a conference he attended.
