Daniel Pendergast, a 2012 graduate of Troy High School, recently completed an internship with the New York Giants in their Information Technology Department.
Daniel was recommended for the paid internship after completing a separate internship at the University at Albany for his Academy for Information Technology (AIT) program at Questar III’s Rensselaer Educational Center.
Recommended to the team by his internship supervisor Tom Hoey, Manager of Network Engineering at UAlbany, Daniel interviewed with the Giants IT department and began working at the start of the summer camp in July. The internship continued through August, with Daniel helping the department transport, unpack and set up their equipment back at the team’s home base in New Jersey.
When Daniel found out he got the Giants internship he said he was so excited he wasn’t able to sleep for the first few nights. As a lifelong Giants fan he was enthusiastic for the opportunity and confident in the work he could provide the IT Department.
Daniel credits Questar III’s AIT program for preparing him for the internship. “Everything I had to do for the Giants I learned from my CTE program.”
Justin Warren, Director of Information Technology for the New York Giants, explained that Daniel’s previous successful work at the University and his CTE training and experience is what earned him the internship. “After we interviewed him and saw his portfolio there was no question that we wanted to bring him in to be a part of the IT team this summer.”
Daniel said he’s most thankful for the experience he gained while interning with the New York Giants Football organization. “It prepared me for future jobs and seeing what really happens in the workforce. It has opened doors for what’s to come,” he said.
He currently attends Hudson Valley Community College where he studies Computer Information Systems. He hopes to complete his Associate’s Degree and continue his education at University at Albany.
