More and more teachers are integrating laptops and tablet computers – such as Apple’s iPad – into their instruction to increase the 21st century learning and engagement that students require. Questar III BOCES will offer a summer series of training on various Apple software to help teachers effectively utilize the technology.

Participants in “Apple Camp” will be provided with an iPad. They can also bring their own. Model Schools Coordinator and Apple Foundation Trainer Carolyn Strauch will show teachers how to use iTunes, iBooks, iPhoto, iMovie, Course Manager, Pages, Keynote and more. One session will also include Microsoft 365.

The training will be interactive and fun, as participants will have the chance to experience the technology first hand. This hands-on approach is beneficial to both the teacher and the students.

“Students are using the technology, but not educationally so this training will help teachers show students how to use it in a more structured way,” said Strauch. “Their future will all hold some form of technology and they’ll need to know how to troubleshoot and integrate it into their lives.

According to Strauch, Apple Foundation training outside of Questar III is $2,900 after making it through a lengthy wait list. Questar III is offering the training for $120 per person, per course. They can also do in-district training.

“Be ready for exposure to the technology, laughter and lots of opportunities to ask questions,” said Strauch.

All classes will be held at the Questar III Central Office in Castleton, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following dates:

  • July 15: iPad Basics
  • July 16: iTunes, iBooks, Course Manager
  • July 17: Pages, Keynote, and Numbers
  • July 22: Photobooth, iPhoto, and iMovie
  • July 23: iBooks Author
  • July 24: Microsoft 365 (as an iPad app)
