Free Opportunity for High School Students to Engage with Poetry

On Thursday, November 6, 2014, at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, local high school teachers will have the opportunity to inspire their students to love poetry and encourage them to write their own. Not only will Project Voice expose students to spoken word poetry, but also engage and excite them to develop their voice and get excited to share their ideas.

Project Voice is a free performance for high school students by celebrated writers, performers, and educators, Franny Choi and Philip Kaye. This national movement celebrates, entertains, educates, and inspires youth self- expression through Spoken Word Poetry.

Project VOICE has performed for audiences including National Poetry Slam, TED Conferences, HBO, NPR and Lincoln Center. Project VOICE is dedicated to promoting empowerment, improving literacy, and encouraging empathy and creative collaboration in classrooms and communities around the world.

“I am taking advantage of this incredible, free, opportunity for my students because Project Voice will give my students an experience with spoken word poetry they may not have had otherwise,” said Mr. Marc Mostransky, ELA Teacher, Troy City School District, “I hope this event will inspire my students to try spoken word poetry themselves. I hope to start a poetry slam program at my school which will be the start of developing their voices in an environment where they and their ideas are valued and celebrated.” Mr. Marc Mostransky, ELA Teacher, Troy City School District.

In addition to the opportunity to enjoy an educational experience that will awaken their creativity, students will get to experience the beautiful, historic, Troy Savings Bank Music Hall in downtown Troy, NY.
