Jennifer Mulligan was recently hired as the Questar III Business Office Manager/Controller. As a certified public accountant (CPA), she brings with her a wealth of knowledge on budget issues.
Q: What is your role here at Questar III?
A: I am the Business Office Manager/Controller supervising the day-to-day financial operations of Questar III’s Business Office. Some of the functions include financial reporting, accounting, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll, billing, insurance, capital projects, grants and compliance.
Q:What are some of your goals as the new Business Office Manager/Controller
A: One of my goals is to gain a full understanding of how the Business Office operates and provide recommendations to enhance operating efficiencies including ensuring that there is adequate cross training in the department. I also am a big team player and believe in developing staff so that their talents are fully utilized.
Q: How do you see your role in supporting the BOCES and the school districts it supports?
A: I have a very good understanding of the budget issues that municipalities face with the Property Tax Levy Cap and most recently the Property Tax Freeze legislation. As I learn the dynamics and intricacies of Questar III, I plan to take that understanding to provide ideas to further enhance the Business Office operations while promoting the mission of the organization and the services that we offer in an effective and efficient manner.
Q: What is your background like?
A: I am a certified public accountant. I currently serve on the Board of Governors of the New York State Government Financial Officers Association and I am a member of their Audit Committee. For the past eight years, I was the comptroller for the Town of Schodack, handling their day-to-day financial operations. Prior to that position, I was an audit manager for the last year and a half of my more than seven-year auditing career with Marvin and Company Certified Public Accountants and Consultants, where I audited towns, counties, villages, IDAs, employee benefit plans, nursing homes, foundations and college associations. I have a B.B.A. in Accounting from Siena College.
Q: What is your impression of Questar III thus far?
A: I am very impressed by how professional and sophisticated the Questar III organization is. Everyone is extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Q: Tell us a bit about your life outside of Questar III.
I live right here in the Town of Schodack, with my husband, Anthony, of 10 years and my four-year-old daughter, Sammi. My most favorite thing to do is spending time with my family. A few months ago Sammi began taking ballet and tap lessons, which I am enjoying so much. She is my pride and joy. I am a runner – or at least I try to be. I also spend much of my summer weekends and vacations boating and camping on the Lake George Islands.
