Denise Geyer works in Questar III’s Executive Office supporting all of Questar III’s certified staff as well as acting as a liason between the BOCES and the State Education Department. Learn more about her background and what she loves about her job.
Q: What is your role here at Questar III, and where do you work?
I work at the Central Office, where I am the Regional Certification Officer and Office Manager as well as part of the Administrative Leadership Team. I also provide support to the School Attorney and the Executive Office Team.
Q: How long have you worked here?
24 years. I started out as a Senior Clerk in the Business Office and came to the Executive Office in 2003.
Q: How do you see your role in supporting the BOCES and the school districts it supports?
In my role as Certification Specialist, I assist our staff, component school districts and coaches negotiate their way through the complex world of certification. If you live or work in the Rensselaer, Columbia or Greene county area you may use this service. I can assist with questions on certification requirements, as well as policies and procedures associated with certification. As a liaison with NYSED I evaluate most applications for certification, provided the applicant has submitted an application through TEACH online services and has chosen Questar III to complete the evaluation. In my role in the Executive Office I assist with the submission of BEDS, VADIR and other State Education Reports.
Q: What is your background like – previous jobs, your education, etc.?
I previously worked as a secretary and production scheduler for the Keuffel & Esser Co., K & E was a drafting instrument and supplies company which coated film for architect drawings. I have an Associate Degree in Accounting from Dutchess Community College.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy being able to assist those who try to maneuver the ever changing world of certification, from sport coaches and teaching assistants to teachers pursuing a new career. I also enjoy working with our leadership team to help create the best learning environments and opportunities for our students.
Q: Tell us a bit about your life outside of Questar III.
I enjoy spending time with my husband, Steve. We both enjoy golfing and spending time with family and friends. We love to travel, especially out west to Arizona where we hope to spend part of our time when we retire.
