At its Annual Meeting on April 6, Questar III Board of Education President John C. Hill presented the G. Lucius Cary Leadership Service Award to retired school superintendent John Yagielski.
Yagielski served as Superintendent of the Shenendehowa Central School District from 1992 to 1997, as well as interim superintendent for Brunswick (Brittonkill) Central School District, Schenectady City School District, and Niskayuna Central School District. He is a proud husband of 46 years to his late wife, Karen, father of six and grandfather of nine.
While many of his family were unable to attend in person, through the use of teleconferencing, four of his children and two of his grandchildren were able to see the award presentation from Buffalo, Rochester, and New York City.
Most recently, Yagielski facilitated a program review of Tech Valley High School at no charge. At the meeting, Hill called Yagielski an advocate for children of all ages, an educational pioneer, and a true and honored friend.
“He astounds all of us here at Questar with his energy, his kindness and his amazing talents, expertise, guidance and professional advice. Over the past year he has generously given of himself by volunteering his time and educational and business talent in helping us with an extensive program review of Tech Valley High School.
The G. Lucius Cary Award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions through volunteer service – reflective of the values and beliefs of Questar III. The award is named for former Questar III board member, G. Lucius Cary.
“I can’t say enough about John and his generosity and kindness. It is a true honor and privilege to know him, to work with him, and to call him a friend. Thank you John,” said Questar III District Superintendent Dr. Gladys I. Cruz.
