Questar III Board President Jack Hill and District Superintendent Gladys Cruz with Jim Keegan

Questar III Board President John Hill and District Superintendent Gladys Cruz honor long-time Board Member James Keegan for his many years of community service.

James Keegan received the 16th annual G. Lucius Cary Annual Service Leadership Award at Questar III’s annual meeting on April 5.

The G. Lucius Cary Award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions through volunteer service – reflective of the values and beliefs of Questar III. The award is named for former Questar III board member, G. Lucius Cary.

Keegan, who will retire from the Questar III Board of Education in June after 26 years of service, has been active in a number of community organizations for the past four decades.

He is a past board member and president of the Hudson CSD Board of Education, former chairman of the Columbia County Board of Supervisors, former town supervisor of Claverack, former town justice of Claverack, former president of the Hudson Lion’s Club, and former vice president of the Columbia County United Way.

Born and raised in Troy, Keegan retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation in 1994 after 36 years of service. He and his wife of 56 years, Margaret, are the proud parents of three children.

Questar III Board President John Hill called Keegan a man of great integrity and passion.

“Jim’s unselfish service and volunteer activities extend far beyond education and into the lives and affairs of his neighbors and his community. He is greatly respected by all who have had the opportunity to know and work with him,” said Hill.

Questar III District Superintendent Dr. Gladys I. Cruz said Keegan will be missed when he retires from the BOCES Board in June.

“I can’t say enough about Jim Keegan and his generosity, his kindness and his selfless giving of his time over the 26 years he has served on the Questar III board.  It is a true honor and privilege to know him and to work with him,” said Cruz.
