Aviation Maintenance students at Questar III’s Rensselaer Educational Center visited DuCommun Industries in Coxsackie, NY.
Aviation Maintenance Technology students received a tour of DuCommun Industries
Students were able to witness firsthand the building of numerous parts for different types of aircrafts including commercial aircraft, regional and business jet aircraft, military aircraft, commercial and military helicopters, and space launch vehicles. Exhaust ducts, firewalls, and waste water pans were just a few of the many parts they observed being made.
Aviation Maintenance Instructor John Mahony said, “Visiting DuCommun was a great opportunity for my students to see world class leading edge aerostructure production.”
In the rapidly growing field of Aviation Maintenance the new two-year career and technical education (CTE) program at Questar III’s Rensselaer Educational Center in Troy prepares students for a career as a licensed FAA 147 Power Plant and Airframe technician.
The tour of DuCommun was led by Richard Matlock, DuCommun’s production manager. Matlock was enthusiastic about the new Aviation Maintenance program. “We’ve been steadily growing every year and plan on continuing that trend,” he said. “We’re certainly looking for new talent.”
After the tour and seeing the hands on work, Averill Park junior Alex Listing said, “They really seem to know what they’re doing and I look forward to being able to do the same work someday.”
