In order to retain state aid, school districts must be in session for all students, including students with disabilities, for not less than 180 days.
The minimum 180 session days = Days on which attendance is taken + Regents Days (maximum of 14, which includes 2 Rating Days for 2017-18) + Superintendent’s Conference days (maximum of 4).
Due to the unforeseen weather conditions this year, SED is allowing districts to schedule a single Superintendent’s Conference Day on Monday June 25, 2018, the first weekday after Rating Day, if doing so is necessary to avoid falling below the 180 days of session required to receive the full allocation of Foundation Aid. A total of no more than four Superintendent’s Conference Days per year may be counted toward the 180 day session requirement. See SED memo.
For each day a district is below 180 days, the district will lose 1/180th of 2018-19 Foundation Aid. If only part of the student population does not meet the minimum requirement, then the reduction of state aid is prorated.
For additional guidance and clarification regarding session days, the school calendar and reporting of attendance data for State Aid purposes, see SED’s reference document Attendance and the School Calendar: Guidelines and Reporting for State Aid Purposes.
