CGEC students meet with admissions reps from local colleges at the annual college fair.
Students at Columbia-Greene Educational Center in Hudson met with admissions representatives from a variety of colleges and technical schools at this year’s annual college fair on Tuesday, October 23rd.
Students in both morning and afternoon sessions attended with their class to learn about post-secondary choices as the next step on their individual career pathways. Many of the colleges represented have articulation agreements with Questar III programs, enabling students to enter college having already earned credits related to their chosen career fields.
Assistant Director of Admissions at Columbia-Greene Community College Kevin Kropp attended and said the college fair is such an important event.
“I like to provide students opportunities to learn about diverse aspects of college life. You can’t get that ‘person to person’ experience online, which is why I like the college fair. Students have had very good questions regarding their career paths, in addition to the questions on their college fair forms.”
Students will complete two forms for their professional portfolios that include information such as tuition costs, job placement assistance, extra-curricular activities, application deadlines, and reflection questions regarding post-graduate plans.
Students also had the opportunity to speak with a successful Questar III graduate, Amina Puorro. After completing high school and the Columbia-Greene Educational Center, Puorro graduated from college, has been employed in Admissions at Bryant & Stratton College, and will be completing her Masters Degree in school counseling this coming May. She reflected on her own experience of choosing a college and what it means to her to come back and assist current students with that choice.
“As a Questar III graduate, I am honored to come back and educate kids on the next steps in their lives. Bryant & Stratton College was a college I looked at when I attended Questar III in high school, it seemed it was fate to be here today, and working with all the students here”.
Schools attending included: Bryant & Stratton College, Columbia-Greene Community College, Hudson Valley Community College, Lincoln Tech, Maria College, Mildred Elley, Modern Welding, Paul Smith’s College, SUNY Schenectady County Community College, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Delhi, SUNY Fulton-Montgomery College, SUNY Morrisville State College, SUNY Sullivan, SUNY Ulster. College representatives were treated to a delicious lunch from our Culinary Arts Program, coordinated by senior students Samantha and Anita.
