Malave generously gave his time to talk to the students, answer their questions and give them advice about how to get ahead in the automotive services industry. He also discussed what employers look for in new hires and emphasized the importance of professionalism in the workplace.

“Although it is a shop it is still a professional environment,” said Malave.

A number of Career Academy students spend half of their school day in Automotive Services, a Career Studies program. These students will soon begin working on a project in which students will create a tire display. The tire display will focus on performance, safety and options of a specific tire. In addition to building the display, students will create handouts, talking points and a short oral presentation for display visitors.

The project includes academic integration for math, English and science and students will learn suspension system technology, tire technology, problem solving skills, teamwork skills and communication skills.

The project will be completed by Christmas and will be displayed at NAPA Autoparts and Kost Tires.
