McDermott spoke to the class about his career and answered numerous questions about the criminal justice field and the many cases he has worked on, including his work as a prosecutor on the highly publicized Christopher Porco case.

After his presentation, McDermott helped the Criminal Justice students with their mock trial. He met with both the defense and prosecution to advise them on tactics and specific details of their case.

Criminal Justice teacher, Amy Gillett, was thrilled her students had the opportunity to engage such a high profile attorney in conversation.

“The students are currently in their Courts and Law Unit and working on a Mock Trial project. It was great to have Mr. McDermott in to discuss the complexities and work that goes into a criminal jury trial,” Gillett said. “Mr. McDermott’s feedback and advice for the mock trial greatly boosted their confidence and re-invigorated them.”
