Craig Wilkinson of Schodack Landing received the G. Lucius Cary Annual Service Leadership Award at Questar III’s annual meeting on April 9.

The G. Lucius Cary Annual Service Leadership Award is presented in recognition of outstanding leadership and contributions through volunteer service which are reflective of the values and beliefs of Questar III BOCES.

The award, Questar III’s highest honor, is a tribute to G. Lucius Cary, a former BOCES board member.

For the last 20 years, Wilkinson has served as a volunteer and role model for students and families in the Schodack Central School District.

Wilkinson said it was truly an honor to receive the award.

“The joy you get from volunteering, when you see a smile on a child’s face or an acknowledging nod from a parent is priceless. I was totally overwhelmed by the award and by the support of the Schodack superintendent, each of the Schodack school principals and the Schodack school board members who came to the ceremony. I will never forget it,” Wilkinson said.

Questar III Board Member Paul Puccio, who also serves on the board at Schodack CSD and Tech Valley High School, nominated Wilkinson for this honor.

“Aside from being a special person, as a volunteer Craig is absolutely dependable and is characterized by his willingness to say, anytime, ‘what can I do to help today?’ Everyone knows him and he knows everyone. I am privileged to recognize his years of service and volunteerism,” Puccio said.

Wilkinson, a Navy veteran, volunteers at the elementary, middle and high school in Schodack CSD, but he can often be seen at assemblies and special events throughout the school district.

Schodack Superintendent Bob Horan said he appreciates Wilkinson’s contributions to the school community.

“Craig is a valuable asset to our students, faculty and staff for the Schodack Central School District as well as in the community. We cannot thank him enough for all that he does while asking for nothing in return,” Horan said.

In addition to this recognition by Questar III, Wilkinson has been previously honored by the Rensselaer County Legislature, Boys and Girls Club and federal government.
