Zwoboda is in his second year of the HVAC/R program at Columbia-Greene Educational Center in Hudson. Last year he earned membership in the school’s prestigious National Technical Honor Society for outstanding achievement in career and technical education (CTE).

Zwoboda said he has always enjoyed working with his hands. Leading up to high school, he and his parents discussed how beneficial learning a trade would be in securing employment in a tough job market. Zwoboda most enjoys working on air-conditioning units.

His teacher already recognizes his potential both in and outside of the classroom.

“Chris is attentive in class, comes prepared, does a great job and has a bright future in HVAC. He is one of the students everyone wants to have,” said Mike Veeder, HVAC/R teacher at CGEC.

A senior at Cairo-Durham High School, Chris plays on the soccer, baseball and basketball teams. This past summer he worked as a lifeguard at Zume Flume Water Park.

Next year, Zwoboda plans on continuing his education at Hudson Valley Community College, enrolling in the Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technical Services program in addition to trying out for the baseball team. Upon graduating from HVCC, he hopes to obtain a position in the HVAC/R industry, where he can use the hands-on skills and knowledge learned at Questar III.
