The opening reception of the 26th Annual Questar III High School Invitational Art Exhibit was held March 31 at the Art Center of the Capital Region in Troy. Jean Dahlgren, chair of the Art + Design Department at the Sage College of Albany, served as this year’s guest juror. She recognized the following students for outstanding work:

  • 1st place: Samuel Paradise (Ichabod Crane) – “The Front Bottoms,” Photoshop
  • 2nd place: Skyler Elfeldt (Averill Park) – “Sugar Magnolia,” Color Pencil
  • 3rd place: Melanie VanAlphen (Ichabod Crane) – “Glistening Honey,” Glazed Earthenware
  • Honorable mention: Victoria Bacon (Coxsackie-Athens) – “Untitled,” Photo
  • Honorable mention: Veronica Bystroff (Troy) – “Cat,” Acrylic
  • Honorable mention: Ashley Hale (Troy) – “Jellyfish,” Wire/Fabric

This year’s program exhibit, which runs through April 18, features artwork from 13 local school districts:

  • Brunswick: Courtney Dreher; Dom Fretto, Isaac Kautz, Madeline Montero, Michaela O’Keefe

The Questar III High School Invitational Art Exhibit began in 1989 as a way to encourage the development and exchange of arts programming for schools in the region.  Over the years the exhibit was held at the Questar III offices in Castleton, Marvin Library at Hudson Valley Community College and WMHT studios in North Greenbush before moving to the Arts Center last year.
