Emily Bobrick, a senior from Greenville High School who attends Questar III’s New Visions: Scientific Research & World Health, won first place at the local Brain Bee held at the University at Albany on March 12.
Bobrick won a trophy and is now invited to compete at the USA Brain Bee Championship at the University of Maryland in Baltimore March 18-20.
The Albany Chapter of the International Society for Neuroscience, headed by UAlbany professor and neuroscientist Dr. Cheryl Frye, sponsors the Brain Bee each year to encourage area high school students to learn about the human brain.
Two other New Visions: Scientific Research & World Health students won prizes at the competition.
Tyler Gregory, a senior from Watervliet High School, was first runner up and won the Brain Bee medal for taking second place.
Kevin Bennett, a senior from Troy High School, was second runner up and won the Brain Bee medal for taking third place.
The Scientific Research & World Health program is a collaboration between Questar III and the University at Albany’s East Campus. Students spend weekday mornings during the school year observing and participating with professors, graduate students, and local professionals in research facilities, government agencies and companies to explore various areas of science and public health research.
