Jodi Rossman, a behavior specialist with Questar III, was selected to present at an international conference sponsored by Cornell University this June.
Rossman will be presenting two Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) focused lectures at the Fourth International Conference of the Residential Child Care Project, June 21-24, in Lake George, NY.
“The work I am presenting on is not my work alone; it is the work of my trainers, my amazing staff, administrators, and colleagues. I have had such support, guidance, critique, and engagement. To me, this is also an example of what we are doing, and showing others excellence in the field,” Rossman said.
Her first talk, TCIS/TCI-Quantifying our Strategic Plan with TCI Training and Practice, will discuss Questar III’s initiative to provide professionally driven development and how use of a multi-channel feedback structure is being used to ensure the responsiveness and efficacy of TCI training.
“I am hoping to engage for the first presentation administrators that want to implement TCI within their districts and embed it in their programming,” Rossman said.
The second lecture, TCIS/TCI Beyond OER: Using “modern media” to Engage and Teach TCI Ideas and Strategies will focus on the education field and the growing trend toward Open Educational Resources (OER). This session will present several video clips used in Questar III’s Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) training to support and demonstrate key concepts.
“I am hoping to have other instructors come and share their materials as well so that we can build a resource of free training materials to use as an instructional library as we all develop our refreshers,” said Rossman.
While Rossman has presented locally, this will be her first experience outside of the area and felt it a “natural evolution to her current role as a professional trainer.” She accepted the invitation believing that it will improve her training skills, promote the work of herself and colleagues, and provide the opportunity to be more connected to the TCI community.
Rossman works within all of Questar III’s special education and CTE classrooms, and consults for its component districts. She develops training to teach needed information regarding mental health and strategies that can be incorporated within the classroom to support behavioral student success.
In addition, Rossman writes and implements the TCI refreshers and curriculum for staff. She is also part of Questar III’s safety committee, and strategic plan committee.
