This year, Questar III inducted its largest class ever into the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) at awards ceremonies at Columbia-Greene Educational Center in Hudson and Rensselaer Educational Center in Troy. Being inducted into NTHS is the country’s highest honor for Career & Technical Education (CTE) students.
A total of 72 students were inducted to NTHS at both ceremonies. Twenty-two were inducted as two-year members, and 50 were inducted for the first time. Inductees participated in a small ceremony taking the pledge of membership and the lighting of candles representing the qualities of an NTHS member: skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership.
“We are very proud of our NTHS inductees. The NTHS endorsement is a strong indication of a student’s academic accomplishments not only at Questar III but at their home school as well. The NTHS endorsement demonstrates added value because every senior inducted also received a Technical Endorsement in their Career and Technical Program. Collectively this communicates a student’s commitment to academic excellence to both the business and education communities,” said REC Principal Anthony DeFazio.
REC also had a record year for inductions, with 38 first year students and 17 second year students.
To be eligible for membership in NTHS, students must maintain an average of 90 or above for three quarters in their CTE program, an average of 85 or above for three quarters at their home school, have five or fewer absences for three quarters, receive a recommendation from a teacher, and perform 25 or more hours of community service.
“The goal of the National Technical Honor Society is to see that deserving technical students are recognized and that people of the community become aware of the talents and abilities of young people and adults who choose technical education pathways to a successful future,” said CGEC NTHS Advisor Lynn Seftner.
REC School Counselor and NTHS Advisor Lisa Gilbert says induction into NTHS offers many benefits for students.
“NTHS honors the achievements of top CTE students, provides scholarships to encourage the pursuit of higher education, and cultivates excellence in today’s highly competitive, skilled workforce.”
