More than three dozen area teens are mixing semiconductors, nanotechnology and energy with fun this week at SEMI High Tech U, an exciting summer day camp offered by the Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium in partnership with GlobalFoundries and Center for Economic Growth. Students are learning on-site at Hudson Valley Community College’s TEC-SMART campus in Malta, College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany, and Schenectady County Community College.
SEMI High Tech U camp is supported by the Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium (formerly known as the Greater Capital Region Career Pathways Consortium) and the New York State Education Department with funding provided through the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.
The Tech Valley Career Pathways Consortium is a partnership between Hudson Valley Community College, Capital Region BOCES, Columbia-Greene Community College, Questar III BOCES, Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex BOCES, Schenectady County Community College, and SUNY Cobleskill. The Consortium is developing career pathways in green technologies, 21st century manufacturing systems, nanotechnol-ogy and biotechnology that will provide students with a seamless transition from high school into technical degree programs offered at local two-year colleges.
