Green Technologies and Renewable Energy instructor Gene Mattiaccio discusses his hands-on program for high school seniors.
Questar III’s Columbia-Greene Educational Center hosted the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Before Hours event on February 29.
Local business people enjoyed a breakfast catered by Chef Peter Desmond, Teaching Assistant Laurie Sweeney and Culinary Arts students while Questar III educators described their career and technical education (CTE) programs.
Questar III Green Technologies and Renewable Energy instructor Gene Mattiaccio, Mechanical Technology instructor Robert Franklin and Health and Emergency Medical Careers instructor Brian Gagne discussed how their hands-on programs support high school students.
Mattiaccio presented the audience with an example of a flashlight his students created. The “light project” is composed of mostly recycled materials and gave his students an idea of what renewable energy is and how it works.
His program, along with the Health and Emergency Medical Careers program, started in September 2011.
Questar III’s Career Development Specialist Lynn Seftner, who is active with the chamber, appreciated the opportunity to bring business people to the Hudson-based center. “I’m excited about showing off the programs we have here at Questar III.”
The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce holds these monthly events introduce members to businesses they may have never been to before.
Amy Kneller, the Chamber’s office manager, was pleased with the event. “It was a great success. I heard wonderful comments from the attendees.”
