Questar III State Aid Planning Specialist Steve Golas knew it was time to make a change in his lifestyle but just needed the motivation to do so.
When Questar III BOCES started the Win to Lose Challenge last fall, Steve decided this was his perfect opportunity. His goal was to not only lose weight (and keep it off) but also to eat healthier and establish a fitness routine.

The Questar III Wellness Committee 2013 “Lose to Win” Weight Loss Challenge is underway and is open to all employees of Questar III. The program is completely voluntary and runs for two five-week sessions.

Career Expo set for May 7

Career Expo 2013, to be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Birch Hill in Castleton, NY, will focus on careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

Adult & Community courses available

The International Center for Workforce and Personal Development is offering numerous Community and Adult Education courses this spring. The diverse selection of courses will be held at Columbia-Greene Educational Center (CGEC) and Rensselaer Educational Center (REC).

enVisionMATH mirrors Common Core

The use of technology like Christin Kiernan’s SmartBoard and visual manipulatives such as blocks or counters is part of a program called enVisionMATH used in Questar III grades K-6 math classes. The program, which aligns with the new Common Core Learning Standards, includes multiple teaching approaches based on the student’s intellectual abilities.

Reading with Ziggy

After 36 weeks of various training, Ziggy is a certified therapy dog, helping students at Greenville Central School District and Questar III’s Catskill Academy gain the confidence and skills to read out loud.

Mentors provide support

The Questar III Mentor Program was developed in 2004 to increase teacher retention and improve student achievement. The program pairs a first-year teacher with a mentor in a non-judgmental and confidential environment
